Due to a lack of direction and structure, early-stage founders struggle to validate the feasibility, desirability, and viability of their ideas pre and post launch. As a strategic partner, Houston Venture Labs collaborates with founders to identify the right problem and test potential solutions.

Team

Houston Venture Labs provides a four-person team with unique areas of expertise:

**Damiano Redemagni: Founder Development, Product Vision, and Rapid Prototyping**

• Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Lilie Lab, Rice University
• Worked with 10+ startups as a Digital Product Specialist; ex Headway, Civic, and Cuebiq
• Guest Lecturer and Mentor at Rice University, Digital Product Consultant for the Italian Consulate in Houston, and Subject Matter Expert at the Ion and Code4Y’all on the topic of rapid prototyping using no-code tools
• Community manager for Chat with Data Cohort 3, a premier AI LLM cohort featuring CEOs of LangChain, LlamaIndex, Chroma etc.

**Joshua Fryszer: Strategy and Program Lead**

• Two-time founding team member, including the launch of a competitor to Amazon Prime in Australia
• Worked with 20+ idea stage clients to bring their ideas to life, taking them from 0 to >1
• Previous clients include Google, Facebook, Novartis, HeartFlow, Artrya, OneDrop, and Just Eat

**Nikhita Kulkarni: Business Development and Program Support**

• Alumnus of the Innovator-in-Residence program at the Ion, Business Associate at SWAN Impact Network
• Researched and authored reports on 30+ healthcare companies as the Equity Research Associate at Brandes Investment Partners
• Finance Graduate from the University of Texas at Austin

Support in these areas helps founders adhere to the program and enables them to focus on customer discovery. The team relies on the founder’s expertise, effort, and network, and will plug in to guide and support as needed.

Program Outline

Stage 1: Problem Definition & Validation:

• Develop an understanding of target customers (early adopters) and their needs.
• Conduct interviews with early adopters and refine your initial problem.

Stage 2: Market & Customer Analysis:

• Assess the broader market landscape for this problem.
• Map the target customer's existing journey to pinpoint your role.

Stage 3: Idea Definition & Preliminary Testing:

• Formulate initial idea
• Test initial product concepts through “Pretotyping” (different from Prototyping) - see here.

Stage 4: Business Strategy & MVP Development:

• Craft a business model and map out foundational assumptions.
• Validate assumptions with experiments and commence MVP development (ideally low or no-code solution), simultaneously continuing customer development.

Program Timeline

The program's duration is determined by various factors, including the founder's full-time job commitments, the problem space, proximity to customers, etc.

Based on our past work, the first three stages typically take approximately 8 weeks to complete.
